Shanganagh Park Development

Public Consultation on Shanganagh Park has Launched

dlr have revised plans for Phase 1 of Shanganagh Park development based on feedback from the local community and are now accepting public submissions as part of a Part 8 statutory consultation period.

Shankill GAA welcomes increased investment in Shanganagh Park and in sporting facilities in the Shankill community.

As the fastest growing club in the local community with approaching 800 active current male and female participating members, who live in the local community, this investment is crucial to the continued development of our club and to encourage participation in sport for all ages, abilities and genders in our local community.

With the planned increase in population outlined in the Woodbrook / Shanganagh local area plan we will require more facilities to cater for the increase in demand for Gaelic games across all age groups and genders.

Increased participation in sport is hugely beneficial to the physical and mental health of our members particularly children who rely on facilities in our local community. This is a once in a generation investment in Shanganagh park and in the future of sport in Shankill, we are calling on our members to support this development.

What access will Shankill GAA receive to these new facilities?

The council have confirmed that Shankill GAA will receive access to these new facilities, however the allocation of access will not be confirmed until after the new facilities have been developed. This remains a concern to the club, a key priority for us is to ensure that the children of Shankill have equitable access to these state of the art facilities.

Shankill GAA were the first club to use the park in the early 1980’s, generations of children have cherished memories of the games they played, the friends they made and how playing for Shankill in the park gave them an enormous sense of pride. When our club reformed in 2013 we again had access to the park in the castle grounds until 2018.

Impact to the local community

We recognise that some local residents and club members still have concerns on the impact this development will have on the local community and plan to object to these revised plans. We respect their decision to do so.

As a local club in the local community we are committed to working in partnership with all park users as joint custodians of the park to ensure the park continues to be a shared amenity that is cherished by everyone for many years to come.

We are calling on all our members to make a submission in support of the clubs position and to make clear to the council and local representatives that the children of Shankill must get equitable access to these proposed facilities.

The closing date for making a submission is 22 May 2023
